Filipe Bragança joined Espace Sbarro Academy, in Switzerland in 1991 and was also involved in the conceptual design development of the Urbi Electric Vehicle, one of the Swatch car initial prototypes (which led to the current Smart city car of today). Since March 2002 he has been project manager and design director for the development of an electrical vehicle project called the ECUV (Electric Commuter Urban Vehicle) the first EV taxi for Guangzhou city in Guangdong province, China. He has also helped set up the LAB – an advanced automotive industrial design center at Sun Yat Sen University, Guangzhou. He is currently executive design director of multi-disciplinary design group, Axius Designs, with offices in Macau and Switzerland.
 
 
Russell Carr

Russell Carr is Head of Design for Lotus Design. His team is responsible for design, clay modelling and digital surface development. Russell is responsible for the design direction of all new Lotus cars as well as managing design and concept car build programmes for its external clients. He has been either directly responsible or managed the design of several new Lotus products and numerous client programmes that have included the Elise, Exige 340R, APX concept, Lotus Type 1 watch, Lotus M250 concept and the new Lotus Evora.
 
 
Jason Castriota

Born and raised in New York to Italian parents, Mr Castriota dreamt of designing cars in Italy from the age of five. After a brief stint at Pratt University’s industrial design graduate program, he attended the renowned Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Starting as an Intern with Pininfarina he was responsible for the designs of several award-winning cars, including the Maserati Birdcage 75 Concept, the Maserati Gran Turismo, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, and a myriad of special ‘one-off’ cars such as the Ferrari 612K, Ferrari P4/5 and the Rolls Royce Hyperion. Mr Castriota and his team from Stile Bertone are proud to be presenting a World Premier ‘one-off’ at the Shanghai show in April 2009. Mr. Castriota dreamt of designing cars in italy from the age of five. After acquiring a BA degree in Filmmaking and Mass Communication from Emerson College in Boston, MA, he set out to pursue his automotive design dreams and enrolled in the renowned Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Midway through his studies he left ACCD for an intership at Pininfaria S.p.A. where he would remain. Seven years on, he held the positions of both Chief Designer and Design Responsible for Special Projects. During his time with Pininfarina, he was responsible for the designs of several award winning cars, including the Maserati Birdcage 75 Concept, the Maserati Gran Turismo, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, and several “One Off “ cars such as the Ferrari 612K, Ferrari P4/5 and the Rolls Royce Hyperion. Mr. Castriota and his team from Stile Bertone are proud to be presenting a World Premier ” One Off” car in Shanghai. 
 
 
Li Chaunqun

Mr Li Chuanqun graduated from Wuhan University of Technology, gaining a masters degree in Art Design. In 2003, he joined CHERY. Since then, he has been establishing the CHERY design team, which has been responsible for the product development of CHERY, including the new B21, B12 and CHERY S18 cars. He was also responsible for the brand of RICH and RELY‘s logo design. In 2008, he was appointed the AERI Styling Department Director, in charge of CHERY passenger vehicle design. His team’s work includes creative design, mold design, color & trim design and A-class surface design for product development.
 
 
Richard S Chung

Richard is currently responsible for Johnson Controls’ Automotive Experience group’s Industrial design strategy and execution in Asia Pacific; supporting operations in China and rest of Asia for various car makers’ programs. He is also responsible in Product Marketing and External Communications to actively promote JCI’s latest innovation & technology, as well as the Consumer Research, which fuels the creative design solutions by understanding the consumer’s needs & lifestyle. In 1987, Richard obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in transportation design from world-renown Art center, college of design, in Pasadena, California in U.S. Richard joined Johnson Controls in 2000 and was appointed as the director of Asia design for 2 years in Plymouth, Michigan. In the summer of 2002, Richard was assigned as the executive director of industrial design in Asia, to support the growing JCI business in the region that requires ID solutions. He was promoted to the current position along with responsibility for Marketing in April of 2006. Richard has extensive automotive design experience from his previous employment at Ford motor company, where he spent 13 years in heading the North American Small Car design studio in Dearborn, Michigan, and Hiroshima, Japan. Richard’s contribution includes the following vehicles: Ford Probe, Escort, Aspire/Festiva, Contour/Mystique, and Europe’s most popular cargo van Transit. Richard also headed Ford’s Global Craftsmanship organization for 3 years before joining JCI in 2000. Richard is tri-lingual (English, Korean and Japanese) and is working on his Chinese (Mandarin). Richard and his wife Jean, have two sons, Andrew and Timothy. He is an active sportsman – his favorite sports include swimming (former competitive swimmer), skiing, volleyball, golf, ice hockey, and tennis. Guillaume Diet

Guillaume has over 10 years experience in the Digital Modelling area in both sketch modelling and A-class surfacing. He has worked on numerous projects at major European and Chinese OEMs. He joined Technicon Design in France in 2002. In 2007 Guillaume was appointed Digital Manager for Technicon Design in China, where he is coordinating and supporting all digital work. Guillaume is also the nominated Technicon Design Academy trainer with Autodesk certification for the Asia Pacific area. Guillaume can teach the following classes: Class-A surfacing with Autodesk Surface Studio; Autodesk Surface Studio conversion training to Alias; Alias surfacing for clay modeller; concept modelling for automotive designer; Alias Studio Paint for automotive design sketching and MAYA.

 

Friedhelm Engler
Design Director
GM PATAC

Friedhelm Engler became design director at GM’s Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) joint venture in Shanghai, August 1, 2007 to oversee the development of products for GM in Greater China. Engler joined GM in 1992 as a transportation designer in the Corsa and Agila Studio rising to global compact car design director with GM Europe Design in 2005.Before joining General Motors, Engler worked from 1988-1991 as a product designer at Frogdesign, Altensteig and Tokyo.A native of Kenzingen, Germany, Engler studied at Pforzheim and holds a master’s degree in transportation design.

 

 
 
Li-Chih Fu

Fu graduated from Art Center College of Design in Transportation Design with Honors in 1990. After 10 years of experience in Toyota’s CALTY studio in California, he moved to Shanghai in 2003 to work on conceptual studies for numerous international and Chinese carmakers. From 2006 to 2008, he works for Nanjing Automotive Corporation as Design Director helping local industry to form competitive design team and raise design capability by bringing in international training and educational programs. Since 2008, Mr. Fu formed “China Automotive Design Institute” and devoted to academic and design research for China’s automotive future.
 
 

Günther Hasna Dipl. Ing

Mr Hasna graduated with a Dipl. Ing Feinwerktechnik FH, in Applied Physics at FH Munich in 1989. He joined TEMIC based, in Nuernberg, in 1989 with responsibility for R&D for optoelectronic sensors in automotive applications (car alarm systems and rain sensors). In 1996 he joined OPTIS, as its Application Engineer and is currently its Consulting Manager.

 

Shizuki Kajiyama
Design Studio Manager
Yangfeng Visteon

Shizuki Kajiyama studied at the Art Center College of Design Pasadena. He worked at several British design consultancies before moving to Visteon Interior Systems in 1999. After working at Visteon Design Studio UK for five years as senior designer, Kajiyama Joined the Chinese design business, with Yanfeng Visteon in 2003. He has worked with many OEMs such as SVW, SGM, Changan Ford, Chery, DFAC, Foton and more.

 

Simon Loasby
Director of Design
Volkswagen China

Simon Loasby began his studies with a mechanical engineering degree from Imperial College. Having been sponsored by Rover Cars he then obtained support from Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars to study at the Royal College of Art. With his Master of Design degree he started his working career at Rolls-Royce and Bentley in 1991. From 1991 to 1998 Simon was involved in many exterior and interior design projects including in 1995 a joint project with BMW and numerous limited series coach-built vehicles. After the delivery phase of the Bentley Arnage and Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph Volkswagen bought Bentley and Simon’s focus became the delivery of the new mid-size Bentley Continental GT. In 2001 Simon moved within the Volkswagen Group to its HQ in Wolfsburg. In his time in Germany Simon worked on many strategic, advanced and production projects. In 2008 he was asked to take up a new position of Director of Design Volkswagen China, responsible for all design activities undertaken by both Volkswagen joint ventures (Shanghai Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen). Simon’s activity in China is not only the support of the localization of Volkswagen vehicles into the Chinese market but also the development of advanced design proposals from the Chinese perspective, the deciphering of consumer and aesthetic directions in the Chinese market (including the communication of this inside the Volkswagen Group), the development of future Volkswagen design strategy for the Chinese market and the ongoing design development of the locally produced vehicles. Simon has been working in or close to China since 2005.

 

Hideichi Misono
President & CEO
Tecno Art Research Co. Ltd.

After working on various projects at Toyota, including being Executive Vice President of Calty, Toyota’s studio in California, Hideichi Misono headed the luxury lines including Lexus. From 2001, as Senior General Manager of the Design Centre, Misono supervised all Toyota design and was instrumental in establishing the carmaker’s design philosophy. In 2004, he moved to Tecno Art, an affiliate of Toyota’s design group.

 

Nathan Mullinix
Vice President, Research and Development

Nathan Mullinix is the Vice President of R&D for the Americas business unit and coordinates global research and development activities for Eagle Ottawa. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Chemistry from North Carolina State University. Mr. Mullinix brings more than two decades of interior automotive materials development to the Eagle Ottawa team, with extensive experience in fabrics, carpets, non-wovens, acoustical materials, plastics and rubber. He has been an active member in the AATCC, the SPC, and remains active in the American Leather Chemist Association of which he is a past president.
 
 
Julian Quincey

Holden Special Vehicles (HSV)

Julian Quincey is Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) Chief of Design and Styling, having held the position since 2003. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Art's Automotive Design Course, which followed an undergraduate degree at Coventry University in Industrial Design Transportation. After stints at Ford and MG Rover and Land Rover he joined the Tom Walkinshaw Group in 1999, where he worked for clients including Aston Martin, MG Rover and Holden Special Vehicles. Following a secondment to HSV in 2003 he was offered his current position where he is responsible for all design development at HSV as well as external design work including an all new Clubman, the Elfin type 5, and Walkinshaw Performance products.

 

Stephane Schwarz

Stephane Schwarz Studio

Stephane Schwarz founded Stephane Schwarz Studio Limited in 2008 to specialize in automotive, transportation, and product design. Recent projects have included electric car project, helicopters, furniture and yachts. Prior to going solo, Schwarz was design director for Nissan Design Europe in London from 2004 to 2007 responsible for the record-selling Qashqai compact crossover and acclaimed NV200 concept van. His career with Nissan spanned 14 years in total, working mainly in Europe but also Japan and included the 2001 Kino concept and 2001 Primera production sedan. Schwarz was also featured in 6 Nissan pan-european tv commercials and dealers brochures representing Nissan Design. Before joining Nissan, Schwarz worked for Pininfarina from 1990-1994 on the 1992 Ethos I and 1993 Ethos II concept cars. Outside of the commercial world, Schwarz is a Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Art and gained a Bachelor of Science in Transportation Design from the Art Center College of Design/Europe, in Switzerland.

 

Manuel Simas

Manuel Simas is responsible for the leading the global automotive/industrial customers for Microsoft. He has more than three decades of experience in the automotive industry. Most recently, he was the managing director in the Worldwide Industry team. Prior to joining Microsoft, Simas spent 18 years at GM and eight years at DaimlerChrysler. He left DaimlerChrysler, where he was CIO, to build up the worldwide automotive industry vertical for Microsoft Corporation.

 

Sebastien Stassin

After graduating in Transport Design from the American Art Center College of Design in Switzerland, Stassin worked for Piaggio, Aprilia and Honda, prior to joining Kiska in 2003. He assists clients on strategic issues such as identifying new opportunities in market segments, product planning and brand strategy. One of his successes was as head of the design team that has rebuilt the KTM brand, now Europe’s second biggest motorcycle manufacturer

 

Peter Stevens
Visiting Professor of Vehicle Design

As the designer behind the famous McLaren F1 road car, the 1999 Le Mans-winning BMW, the Lotus Elan, Jaguar’s XJR-15 and the Subaru Impreza P1 road car among others, Peter Stevens is one of the most sought-after automotive designers. Peter is a professor at London’s Royal College of Art, currently working closely with students and tutors in the respected Vehicle Design and Industrial Design and Engineering departments. The depth of his expertise is clearly acknowledged by his contemporaries through many awards he has received, including two nominations for the UK’s Prince Philip Prize for Designer of the Year and the automotive industry’s coveted Autocar Designer of the Year award. Current design projects include creating a radical, wind-powered, sportscar. He is engaged in research and development of alternative and sustainable transport, including hovercraft, electric motorbikes and buses. He has also been working on new vehicle launches with the automotive division of Mahindra & Mahindra in India, and design consultation for Virgin Atlantic

 

Zheng Sulin

Mr Zhen Su Lin graduated from Hunan University Industrial Design Department. Over the past 20 years he has worked on countless Chinese vehicle projects, including Dongfeng-Citron Elyse, Chery sedans like Qi Yun, Dong Fang Zhi Zi, A5 and Rui Hu SUV. He also has extended experience in multi-national joint projects with RDS of UK, IDEA of Italy, Citroen and Nissan. Since 2005, Mr Zhen has worked for Dongfeng Motor R&D Center as Design Director, in charge of Dongfeng Brand passenger vehicles design

 

Lowie Vermeersch

Lowie Vermeersch grew up in an artistic family in Flanders. His passion for design induced him to pursue his studies in Industrial Design Engineering at the Technical University Delft. In 1998 he joined Pininfarina, where he contributed to the design of many successful cars and prototypes such as Nido, Birdcage 75th and Sintesi. On August 1, 2007 he was appointed Design Director. His main goal is to continue to reaffirm Pininfarina’s role as an innovative leader in the field of car design.

 

Robert Walker

Robert Walker began his Automotive Design career with an Industrial Design degree from the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, Michigan USA. He started his professional career in 1998 at the General Motors Design Centre, where he was a creative designer in the Interior Components studio dedicated to Chevy and Pontiac Brands. Following this he realized his strong appreciation for the Interior side of automotive design and joined the Lear Corporation Interior Design Studios - Detroit in 1999. From 1999 – 2004 Robert was involved in many interior design projects for various Domestic and International Automakers, including such vehicles for GM as the Chevrolet HHR and Cadillac DTS vehicle interiors. In 2004 Robert accepted a position with Lear Corporation as Manager of Design for Asia, based in Seoul, Korea. In this capacity Robert set up the Style/Design studio and managed a team of designers dedicated to Lear’s Asian Automaker interior programs. This included production and advanced design developments for GM Daewoo and Hyundai. During this time he also worked closely on Advanced Interior Design projects for China. Following his work in Korea, in 2006 Robert joined GM Holden Design in Melbourne, Australia. As a senior designer he had the opportunity to work on a wide range of vehicles for Australia and GM global products. His main project during this time was as a team member of the Chevrolet Camaro production interior design team. In 2008 he worked at GM’s PATAC design studio on a vehicle interior for the Chinese market. Following his brief posting in China with GM, Robert decided to live and work in China and accepted the position of Interior Design Manager with PSA Peugeot Citroen’s newly opened Design Centre in Shanghai, China. In this capacity Robert is responsible for the production Interior design development of Peugeot and Citroen vehicles for the Chinese market and overseas as well as overall advanced design strategy for future vehicles in China.

 

Tony Williams

Tony Williams is design director of SAIC Motor UK Technical Centre. After gaining a MA in Automotive Design and BA (Hons) Transport Design from Coventry University, England, he joined Mitsubishi Europe Design in Trebur, Germany as a designer, working on exteriors and interiors, including periods spent in Japan. Then he joined MG Rover Group Design centre as UK Design Manager leading exterior and interior design projects including the MG TF and managing the design studio. After MG Rover he initially joined Ricardo 2010 Ltd, as Chief Designer but when that company became part of SAIC Motor Technical, he became UK Design Director working alongside a Shanghai based Design Director. For SAIC he has developed new vehicles for MG and Roewe brands including responsibility for the Roewe 550’s design development.

 

Edward Wong

Edward Wong graduated in 1987 from Pasadena Art Center College of Design with a degree in Transportation Design. He has extensive experience in the automotive design industry, and has worked for GM, as a consultant for Surbaru; Honda, International Automotive Design, CALTY, Dome Design of Kyoto, Toyota Philippines, Francisco Motor Company, Filipino Car Foundation, Nanhai Fudi Automobile, Beijing Jeep Corporation, and Beijing Automotive Tech Centre, among others.

 

Prof. Yan Yang
The Department of Industrial Design, Academy of Arts and Design
Tsinghua University

Yan Yang is professor of department of industrial design, at the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University. In 1986 Yan Yang became a lecturer in industrial design at the Central Academy of Arts and Design at Tsinghua University, rising to associate professor in 1993, vice director in 1999 and then professor in 2006. During that time he has been a visiting scholar at the Ecole Nationale Superieure Des Arts Decoratifs in Paris (1993) and a visiting professor at the Academy of Architecture in Aarhus, Denmark (1995). He has also been responsible for numerous publications including “Human factors for product design” (1997) and “Survey of car design” (2005) as well as research projects for clients like LG , Motorola, Johnson Controls and Hundai Motors. Yan Yang has been in charge of Transportation Design Program at Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University since 1999. Graduates for TD program of Tsinghua University have enjoyed higher and higher reputation in Chinese car companies and some global companies such as Mercedes, PSA, JohnsonControls and Mitsubishi.

 

Li Yanlong
Designer, Associate Professor
Tongji University

Since June 2007 Li Yanlong has been Associate Professor of Tongji University teaching transportation design, and assessment for new productions cars including exterior, interior and colour and trim. Previously he lectured at JiLin University. In the commercial field, in 2001 he designed the CA6350 Facelift for FAW – one of the earliest domestic self-development projects – winning the 2005 S-T Advancement Award of Jilin Province. From 2003 to 2006, he led the design of three production cars for Chery – the QQ6, V2 and Higo and in 2006 designed the exterior of the TFC-M1/M2 for Tianjin-FAW. Between 2004-2007 he was also chief designer and design manager at IAT Beijing.
